Blue Canyon Country Club
The
legendary Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket is amongst the most
prestigious and exclusive golfing establishments in Asia. Blue Canyon
Country Club offers two award-winning 18-hole championship golf
courses, the Canyon Course built in 1991, and the Lakes Course, built
in 1999. The Canyon Course has hosted many international tournaments
including the Johnnie Walker Classic in 1994 & 1998 and the Honda
Invitational in 1996.
Developed in 1988 from an abandoned tin mine and rubber plantations the
Canyon Course is carved into lush landscape surrounded by freshwater
lakes, and boasts some 14 water hazards, a selection of demanding Par
3s and large, fast undulating greens with a mix of narrow tree-lined
fairways and a number of doglegs.
The back 9 provides some especially challenging holes. The "signature"
13th hole requires a tee shot across a wide canyon and selecting a line
within your capabilities is important. The Par 3 14th has a drop in
elevation of 40 ft from the tee to an island green and may require 1 or
even 2 clubs less than normal. Fred Couples described the 17th as "one
of the best par 3,s in golf ".At over 200 yards in length with a canyon
running along the right hand side all the way to a sloping hidden
green, a par here will be well earned.
The Blue Canyon Clubhouse offers hospitality on par with the club's
world-class golf courses including, Professional Golf Shop offering the
latest in golf equipment and apparel and two restaurants serving
international cuisine and Thai specialties.
