Ao Nang Nightlife

Ao Nang's nightlife is about as crazy as Krabi gets. But it's not Bangkok, Pattaya, nor Phuket; not even close. It's mild-mannered and mellow. It's watching the sunset, shooting a game of pool and meeting new people from all parts of the globe.

It's about relaxing, enjoying the cool evening breeze, and being able to wake up in time for the hotel's breakfast buffet the next morning.

But that's not to say there aren't options:

The Beach Road

The highest concentration of late-night haunts faces the beach near to the north end of the beach road. A prime location and good tunes are all that's needed to keep Planet Ao Nang Bar hopping well into the night. Fusing a tattoo studio with a trendy cafe, Nutt Tattoo Studio wins an award for cleanliness and creativity.

The small soi that parallels the beach road is home to Funky Fish, a popular hangout for divers with mass sports coverage on several televisions and a pool table. A personal theory that Thailand is constitutionally required to have an O'Malley's in every town is given further credence by the presence of O'Malley's Irish Pub.

O'Malley's Irish Pub

It's exactly what you imagine, but with peek-a-boo sea views from the second floor balcony. Nearby Encore Cafe has pool, darts, live music on the weekends, and a book of available tunes that circulates the bar and enables the customers to play deejay. It's like karaoke, but you don't get to sing.

The Irish Rover Bar and Grill is the popular pub in the Ao Nang, located on the beach road near the police station, the Irish Rover is a cozy pub, which serves draught Guinness and a whole range of imported beers. A number of patrons come here to read the English papers, or watch the sport.

The Irish Rover Bar and Grill has a pool table and provides sports coverage if you need a football fix. If you are planning for a night out at Ao Nang Beach, be sure to make The Irish Rover, the isrish pub of your choice.

JJ's Sports Cafe offers T-bone steaks, burgers, cocktails and an 80" screen for those can't miss sporting events.

Beer Bars in Ao Nang

Beer bars, famed for their lovely hostesses (most, but not all, have been women since birth) who will whip you at a game or ten of Connect Four, aren't prevalent in Ao Nang except in two places.

On the beach road, listen out for thumping music around Centre Point. The best bar here seems to be the Rocky Bar. It features pretty good live music and a warm atmosphere. KR Bar features drinks promotions with a free pool table and sport on the TV. Visit Rocky Bar site :

Wade through vendor's stalls and you'll stumble upon a dark labyrinth of small bars, warm smiles, and plenty of reasons to stop for a cold one.

The good thing about this area is that all the bars compete to find the cheapest drinks combinations; something which is beneficial for visitors. The Long Bar has happy hour all night; go figure.

The other location to find more interesting company is the small soi called 'The Soi', funnily enough, across the street from McDonald's.

A dozen or so bars packed with hostesses wait to welcome you.
